I first met Glynis in the Black Lion public house in Leighton Buzzard in 1981
she was an attractive blond haired girl, but it was her zany personality
that drew me to her. I had a thing for her straight away, but she was seeing
someone at the time. Glynis was in the RAF serving in telecommunications at the nearby RAF Stanbridge base. I was ofetn amazed at how fast she typed, especially as she managed to hold a conversation whilst she did so. Glynis left the RAF and moved into a flat above what was then a bakery in Grove Road, LB with her friend (can't recall her friends name). It made me laugh that the phone number she gave me was of the public phone box that was just outside and you had to wait a good while for her to answer.
I worked in Luton at the time and Glynis had a Saturday job in a boutique called Miss Peelers in Peel Street, Luton. I occasionally gave her lifts back to LB an also go out for a drink in LB or Dunstable where I lived.
I was made recundant and found a job with the comapny Glynis was working for called lancer Boss Lift Trucks in Grovebury Road. I really loved Glynis and we got to be good friends. In 1983 Glynis moved back to Cheltenham as her family where living in Stroud, Glos. I kept in touch until 1986, when I went off to live and work in Germany. I know she moved from the flat she had in Grosvenor Street, Cheltenham because she told me she was moving. In 1989, I had an accident and had bad head injuries. I tried to find Glynis and even went to Cheltenham but had no luck. To cut a long story short, I now know that Glynis had married Simon Lewis in June 1988 and sadly died due to complications giving birth to her son Carl on the 10th July 1989.
I always look back at the time when I was close to Glynis and remember her great sense of fun, especially the impersonation of Janet Street-Porter.
It says on her headstone 'NEVER FORGOTTEN' and believe me she will never be.
Rest in peace Glynis x
